quick 3.73 question

my car is in the shop getting gears installed. i have a couple of quick questions:
1. will my car shift right before i get the speedo fixed?
2. how much will the speedo be off?
3. with the speedo corrected 1st gear should redline about 40mph? and 2nd gear redline about 70mph?
4. how big of a problem will traction be on street tires in 1st gear?
thanks
jesse

1. yes
2. ~18% (1+3.23/3.73)* showing speed = actual speed
(subsitute 2.73 in if you had those)

3. roughly depending of tire size. www.f-body.org/gears for exact answers

4 . huge

Are you sure? Since the shift timing relies on the VSS and it is going to be wrong, how will it shift correctly?

My car didn't shift right once, and then shifted perfectly every time.

Shift points are based on speed. Your tranny will shift, but don't expect a WOT shift. Heres why...The computer will think you should shift out of 1st at around 48mph(assuming 2.73's), but you will set off your rev limiter around 40mph. It will shift fine at partial throttle, but you can't really race it until you get it programmed. I know this because I just got 3.73's, and drove around for a day before I got my hypercrap programming on my car. Traction in 1st will be gone. I had 275 good year f1's and I could launch easy and good, but once I hit about 4,000 rpms in 1st I broke loose and kept spinning until I shifted into 2nd. Now with the 315 nitto drag radials I can finally keep some traction in high rpms in 1st. Just get it programmed and learn to love the gears. One of the best mods I have done so far.
