Questions about stock optispark - rotor breaking?
Questions about stock optispark - rotor breaking?
Chimed in on a discussion on impalassforums.com regarding the new MSD cap/rotor kit and the need to "upgrade" using it.
I was lead to believe, by searching, that the problem with the optis was directly related to water, moisture, condensation, etc... but am hearing now that the rotors are falling apart inside the factory optis?
Has anyone experienced this occurrence?
Has MSD effectively eliminated the moisture problem in their cap/rotor kit? If this is the case i'd gladly spend the $150 to get one - but if not, what's the advantage of using an MSD cap/rotor kit that cost almost as much as a replacement opti?

Re: Questions about stock optispark - rotor breaking?
Ive never seen it happen on a slower/stock car.
Fast cars which rev hard into the upper 6ks will break the rivets out of the stock rotor imploding it internally. Makes quite a mess.

I thought I broke the rotor on my opti when the car died, untill it restarted after it got towed home. Turned out that I had about 2 teaspoons of oil in the bottom of the opti case and the optical sensor was shot.

happened to javier97z28 in the burnout box. the contact just fell off of the rotor. think his car shifts at 6300? burns out in 2nd gear at 6200
. on my car it was the optical sensor that was bad. made noise when spun by hand and had some corrotion on it.
