Question Questions about solid rollers...

I've been doing a few searches here and haven't found the information I'm looking for, so here goes.

For any questions regarding parts assume a solid roller with .650" lift or less...

1. Why is idling an issue? What is it about the lifter body that keeps oil from lubricating it at low RPM's? If anything, wouldn't that effect worsen as RPM's increase?

2. Any comments on pushrod selection? What are you guys using? Would a Comp chromemoly 7940-16 be strong enough to hold up?

3. What are guys using for rocker arms? Is anyone getting away with pro magnums or is it foolish to run anything less than a shaft mount setup?

4. Any good reading available online about solid rollers? The best info I've found so far was here on SpeedDemonMotorsport's website.

Thanks guys!

Because the roller axle bearings rely a great deal on splash oiling for lubrication. Low rpm means less oil slinging in the crankcase and more rpm means better oiling for the lifter bearings. If you search this forum you'll find a recent thread on solid roller cams. Alot of info was given in that thread along with oiling options you should consider in a solid roller lifter.

Don't know that part number but any quality 4130 chromemoly 5/16" pushrod would suffice for a ~6500 rpm solid roller engine build seeing up to 400 lbs of spring pressure. More than that and you should look at 3/8" diameter.

I run a shaft setup but that's not necessary in most cases. The Comp Hi Tech would be a nice choice for a stout street roller. That'd be my first choice for stud-mount followed by Harland Sharp.

Don't know of anywhere to read up on solid roller street setup. Your best bet is just what you've done.... confide in people who have been there, done that.

Good luck.
