Don't waste your money on the flat K&N filter, but DEFINITELY get a cold air intake like K&N or Moroso. You can pick up an honest 10-15hp in LT1's from it.

Would that be a decent budget option? I'm especially interested because my air intake elbow is shot as well, and KN's dont come with it, but this one does? Any opinions?

Not clear from the photo where the filter is located. If its inside the engine compartment, its not going to be as effective in pulling in cold air as a setup like the K&N or Moroso that puts the filter down in the lower part of the fender, and isolates it from the engine heat with a block off plate.

The filter itself sounds sort of cheap. They are "suggesting" its like a K&N by mentioning that it is cleanable with a KN kit, but its not a K&N.

What diameter is the aluminum tubing? Looks like it is significantly smaller than the MAF diameter.

It's 3.1in diameter tubing, and I checked another pic of it. It relocates the filter down close to where the KN does, near ground level...

That kit is garbage. Look at the coupler by the fuse panel; he's trying to seal it on a bend instead of straight pipe.

englundjd: Even if it works like stock thats fine with me, because my filter is done and i need the manifold elbow as well. A replacement elbow alone is $70, and i need a filter too.

Im prob gonna buy tommorow and will be happy if its as good as stock, though i really do thank all of you for your imput. =)

O.K I deleted it. What type of cai did you end up picking up? I am doing a ls1 lid swap now, it is far better than any other cai out there, but it will take some modding to get it to fit on a stock hood camaro. Here is something to think about for the future, that is if you did by the ebay cai. Guys that have went from a Moroso cai to this system have reported .2 and 4mph faster in the 1/4. You will need the stock lower ls1 air box $50 and the lid $90 for a new slp.
Here is some good info on installing it on a stock camaro hood http://joelrdevriendt.com/?p=46
I was lucky to have a ws6 hood so I did not have to do much modding and it was far cheaper than the ws6 intake; not only does this outperform every cai for the lt1 camaro, it also looks a lot better.

Just an FYI, I recently dyno'ed a bone stock 97 Z28 on a Mustang Chassis Dyno. Made one pull with the stock air box and filter, then made the next pull with a Moroso CAI. The car picked up 2 HP at the wheels. Pretty crappy, that's about $100/HP. Sure it will probably make a little more when going down the road at speed, but it won't be anywhere near 10-15 HP with a CAI alone.
