Questions about GM847 cam

Ok I think I have decided on this cam and was wanting to know about how much everything is going to cost. Im talking about just the cam, springs, pushrods, lifters, roller rockers etc. I know the heads and tune are going to cost more but I just dont want to get burnt on the other stuff. Thanks Joe

cam = 250
rockers = 250
guideplates = 30
pushrods = 50 to 120
springs, locks, retainers = 100 to 300
lifters = 200

I ended up spending roughly 1700 on my cam project. That included other extras like 95+ opti conversion, electric h20, cloyes etc.

I spent a fortune, but i dont feel cheated at all. I bought the best parts available, and got everything pricematched/discounted etc.

Guide Plates, thought you only needed that for non s/a rockers?

For that cam just depends on how much you want to spend, you can get away with just springs and rockers plus what ever seals you need and the tune. Pushrods and lifters can stay if they are in good shape but if your there you may as well change it if you got the cash. Its about 7 or so in parts total.

Guide plates are for NON SA rockers. I didnt want the noise of SAs, nor having the rockers being the only thing holding the rods steady. Good pushrods/rockers/guide plates are my piece of mind spinning big rpms like i do.

Do you have emmision testing in Cinci? If so, how does the 847 do?
Sorry for hijacking the thread

Yes we have e-check, only every 2 years though. I still have 12 months before it has to go through it. No way the car will pass as it sits now (no cats etc). Hopefully will be ok once i put on my buddies y with cats, cam doesnt have tons of overlap which is normally the killer. If that doesnt work i have other means of getting it passed.

with my calculations using the Cmotorsports cam kit and a new LT4 XD timing kit, I'll spend about $950 (not including new opti, lifters and waterpump which are not necessary but good items to replace at that time)

I'm getting stuff off this board however ($220 brand new XE cam, $100 Harland Sharp rockers) and so far my total looks like its going to be around $775.

I would go with the ISKY adjustable guide plates. THey will get the rockers to ride where they need to be.

Anything else will toss the valve tips in no time and ruin lifters fast

Go ahead ask me how I know
