Question on crank snout?

Can anyone tell me how far the crank snout on a 93 LT1 sticks out past
the seal on the timing cover.

I ask because I broke an ear off of the hub and I am cutting it off and I'm
Worried about cutting into the crank.

Re: Question on crank snout?

Look into the bolt hole in the center of the hub. I'm pretty sure the crank comes all the way up to it. If you are not super careful, you are going to end up with even more serious of an issue.

Re: Question on crank snout?

It looks like the threads for the center bolt is closer to the block than where I'm cutting but I stopped because I wanted to be sure.

That's why I wondered if someone who had the hub off can tell me how far (1 or 2")
the crank sticks out past the seal on the timing cover.

THe cranck snout sticks out all the way to the end of the hub. Cutting it off will be difficult without ruining the crank. Why not try having the broken tab welded back on then heating the hub when you put the puller on it?

Re: Question on crank snout?

OP

before you go any further cutting off hub (read don't)

either weld the broken ear off back on or try what I suggest in your other forum post

Crank hub question - LS1LT1 Forum : LT1, LS1, Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am, Engine Tech Forums

however if you are already cutting into the hub...don't know if it will withstand being "pulled" off with the method I suggest
