Question question before i change my fuel filter

Does it matter which end i disconnect first?? should i unbolt the side closer to the engine first or the side towards the rear of the car. Thanks

I don't believe it really matters which side you undo first. When I did mine, did the side that has the quick connect first, then the other side which requires a wrench. Hope this helps.

I think I would do the fitting end first. If there is some gas to come out (and usually is), it will allow you to have a little more control over how fast it comes out. Have a catch pan, rags and no smoking. Eye protection would not hurt either.

Opening the gas cap doesnt relieve fuel pressure.

You must bleed it from the schraeder (sp???) valve, or unplug the fuel pump, and start the car, let it run til she dies.

If you properly release pressure, not too much fuel will come out.

Is releasing pressure ABSOLUTELY necessary?

well not really but if you like the taste of gas and feel of it in your eyes then just take that sucker off w/o relieving the lines of pressure my first experience changing the fuel filter was rather unpleasant because i didnt release the pressure.

She's been sitting for, ehh, 14 hours... should this be sufficient? Or do i really have to make her die. I really don't wanna make her die, it'll make me cry .

I got a new Purolator fuel filter the other day and was debating whether to change it myself or not. Looks easy, but do you need a special tool for the plastic quick disconnect fitting? I'd hate to break or mess it up while trying to get old off and new on. If you don't release pressure, and change it if it hadn't been driven for a week, how much gas will you loose? A cup or a gallon.....?
Thanks

hahahah seriously.... i couldnt stress how easy this job is! you dont have to let the car sit. i did mine last week, had a full tank of gas, and had been driving the car in the morning. let the car cool down, then took off the old one.

do what altjar says... release the pressure in the schraeder valve. there is a pic of it on shoebox's website. just make sure you use a rag when releasing the pressure because gas will squirt out! i also took off the gas cap.

i started by releasing the clip first. guess it doesnt really matter. the only pain is getting it out of the little holder it is in. i couldnt get the holder off, so i just slid the filter through it once i had both sides disconnected. really easy job, you will get it done in no time!

.... oh and by the way.... i lost MAYBE a half a cup of gas! prolly even a little less!

I just changed mine for the third time the other day, and I've never relieved the pressure in the system when I've done it although I'm sure it's a good idea. Just don't have your face real close to the filter when you disconnect it, and eye protection would be a good idea. It doesn't "blow out" or anything, it just runs out for 15 seconds or so and I'd say like 3-6 ounces of gas come out before it stops.
