question about Z that sputters then dies

is it possible that the z would sputter then die if the rocker arms were not tightened down to specs..wouldnt this mean that the valves are not lifting enough and for some reason the car wont stay on if you get to like 3000 rpm while driving.cause idling the car stays on if reved up to 3000 rpm..i just dont know what can be causing my car to do this..and i have a dumb question also, is the alternator suppose to get hot??

If the gaskets are in deed leaking, the likely problem is a bad valve guide causing the valve to stick. When you did the gaskets before, did you check the heads for flatness?
