Question about Waterpump. Been sitting for awhile and its hard to turn.

Its been sitting for about 14 months and its somewhat hard to turn, is this because of it being dry?

Even my old, dead pump would spin relatively easily with my fingers (though it had ball bearings missing and made a terrible noise). If it is too stiff, I would not use it.

There was a recent post on here that someone put in a Bosch pump and because it was stiff (actually defective) it ate up the w/p drive gear and cam gear (an expensive LT4 gear). If it doesn't seem right, don't use it. You might try going to the parts store and comparing the effort needed to spin a new one.

Ok Im not sure you guys say it should spin freely I went to the auto parts store and it was a little stiff just like mine to turn. There has to be some tension.

Well, "hard" is a relative term. If yours is no different than the ones at the parts store, then you probably have nothing to worry about.

My old pump I just took off was pretty easy to spin (135k on it) the new one was considerably harder to turn with my hand but I could turn it.
Difference between old and new bearing I guess.
