Question about new heads and pushrod legnth

Hey all, had a question. I have heads from a 1995 camaro that were done up my TEA to flow alittle better then their "stage 2" setup. I am going to be installing them, along with a 230/230 comp cam. The heads were prob milled at one point and I would like to replace my pushrods while I am at it. I will also be putting impala gaskets on to raise the compression also. I was wondering, should I go with a stock pushrod legnth of 7.200" OR go with a 7.150" which are made for milled heads and thinner gakets? Thanks.

If you are going to be building engines you need to own (or borrow) a checking pushrod.

You are building your engine up.What Rich said is right on.Too many variables to guess.Get a length checker from Thunder Racing for about $20.00.Do it right.

Wrong length pushrods can lead to problems, it needs to be checked.

whats your opinion though on the legnth? The heads were only milled once, and using the impala gaskets.

Its not a matter of opinion, no one wants to speculate then be blamed if there wrong.
It seems to me you just dont want to spend money on wrong pushrods..... which is a good thing. A free and easy way to check is by using the factory pushrods. Put them on one cylinder, use a black, blue or red marker to color the valve tips, install 2 rockers, set preload and turn the motor over, remove the two rockers. If it leaves a pattern in the center of the valve tip, stay at 7.200. If its off center then you really need to measure it with a checking tool. There is really no guessing unless you know exactly how different size pushrods effect rocker action. Experienced motor builders do and usually have tons of different sized pushrods laying around, that tells me that small engine changes can affect PR length.

I have impala head gaskets, milled heads (.010" over) and I have a 233/239 cam. I HAVE stock length hardened pushrods, but I NEED the ones the are 7.15" instead of 7.20" like I'm running right now. I even bought a pushrod length checker and never took it out of the wrapper. (slaps forehead)

Bottom line, they really should be checked, but if you want to take my word for it, get the 7.15" ones. hope this helps.
