Question about idle speed on startup...

When I start my car, usually when cold but even sometimes when it's warm, the idle speed will jump up to 2k rpm's and take up to a minute to drop back down to normal. Even driving it will not help until I let it sit in idle long enough. (i.e. - driving right away with high idle then stopping at the stop sign down the street it still has the high idle until I let it sit and lower itself)

I just started having a strange vibrating problem at idle and around 2k rpms also, but I'm not too sure it's related (kinda scared it's a lifter or bearing). Is the crazy idle rpms at startup related to the MAF? or maybe the IAC? Any help is appreciated.

Kyle

Re: Question about idle speed on startup...

It seems to me like it would be related to the TPS. Mine idles at about 1k for a few minutes until it starts to warm up a little. 2K is pretty high.

Re: Question about idle speed on startup...

Mine normally idles at 900 rpms after a minute. My dad has a scanner and it wasn't showing anything abnormal (at least what I noticed), of course I don't know the exact numbers it should be running. Anyone have a link to a good set of numbers it should be scanning?

Re: Question about idle speed on startup...

There is a table of factory programming of "idle speed vs. coolant temperature" in my online scanner writeup. There are also typical values for the IAC counts at idle, which also need to be checked to track down an idle problem.
