A Question About Check Engine Light

We`re talking about a 96 Z-28 with automatic. Two weeks ago my son calls me says dad my cars missing real bad and the check engine light is on I tell him bring it over we`ll look at it. 30 minutes later he arrives the miss is gone but the check engine light isn`t I tell him shut it off unhook the battery let the computer reset then see what happens he does the light is off all seems well. He calls me again today dad the light is back on there is no miss but the car doesn`t feel right he put it on a diagnostic machine at his work it showed nothing no codes no anything. He asks what could be wrong with it I say I have no clue thats why I`m asking you guys. He`s had the car less that a month just before he got the car it had a complete tune up wires plugs optispark..anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Any help appreciated.

Re: A Question About Check Engine Light

Have him take the car to Autozone and have the car scanned. Or do what I did and buy a scanner - it has more than paid for itself

Re: A Question About Check Engine Light

Appears his "diagnostic machine" isn't working. If the SES light is on, there's a code. You can get an OBD-II code scanner for as little as $40.

An SES light caused by a misfire will generally be a "flashing" light. If the SES is on steady, there's another problem causing the misfire that needs to be addressed.
