Question about cam vs. emissions
Question about cam vs. emissions
I'm getting ready to build a forged bottom end 383 with a P1SC supercharger.
I'm curious how big of a cam I can use and still pass the emissions sniffer test?
Is the cam going to be the biggest determining factor for emissions?
It's being converted to OBDI and will have ported heads. Does anyone know how far I can go before it won't pass?
I think the emissions requirements are similar to California.
Thanks

If its anything like IL. I would keep the OBD-II. Here in IL (my area), when you have an OBD-II car they hook it up to the computer. And look for trouble codes, thrown off by the PCM. If there are'nt any problems, then you pass. Now from 7?-95, they put you on the dyno/sniffer. And look test the exhaust to see if you fail their tests.
Hope this helps. I hope someone from your area can help you out.

Here in Utah, some counties plug OBDII cars in and scan them for codes. Cars before that get run on a dyno and they use the sniffer.
Where I live they just use the sniffer on the dyno.
