Question about Automatic Shift Programing, Mad Wolf, Brian, Somebody.

I'm getting ready to do an LE2 setup so i will need to get my PCM tuned anyway so i was wondeirng about what options i have for automatic transmission shifting. I plan on putting in a Hurst quarter stick shifter with the pistol grip. Here's the one im talking about.

Well anyway, I was wondering what kind of programming can be done with the automatic transmission. I have a 1995 Formula so i have the "Performance" button. I was wondeing if it could be tuned so it shifts very firm with the button off, and somewhere around 6300 rpms, and with the button on, shift somewhere around 4500 rpms so that when I'm "racing" i can use the Hurst shifter as a manual and maybe hold the gears a little longer.

I was also wondering if the transmission will change gears as soon as i shift or if it will delay. Mine right now if im going say about 35 in 1st gear and i slide the shifter to 2, it will delay a second and then shift. Same for all the gears. I have a Jet 2 module which i believe is some sort of electronic shift kit. The gears hit very very hard, and shift at 6,000 rpm in either mode. There may have been transmission work by the rpevious owner. Theres a holley 255 pump in it, and a few bolt ons. The thing is i dont want to manually shift at about 6400 rpm, and then have it delay to about 6700 rpm before it shifts.

Another thing i was wondering is should a reprograming/shift kit be installed in a 4L60E? I have heard that they don't need them, but is it ok to be manually shifting the automatic?

Thanks for the help guys!

Shawn

Maybe should have been posted in the computer forum, but you should be able to get the tranny programmed any way you want. Manual upshifting should be ok, but downshifting contributes more wear and tear. If you have your shift points adjusted the way you like them, you should not have to manually shift at all. That way would be way more reliable/consistent than manually shifting. IMO, better to do your own shift point changes, because it may take a lot of changes to get it right.
