Question..

Got my car all "street legal" tags and such today.. I've never driven or rode in a car with a cam like mine so I was curious if it's normal to sound like you're backfiring when you shift at 5k+ RPM's I have a tune from Ion, which works great for me(Thx Ion).

Could not have enough spring on the valves and floating at "that" low of a RPM. It shouldn't backfire through the exhaust unless ya got a bad leak and sucking air in the exhaust causing it to fire off,and definitely not through the intake.

Well I guess there is this Hole in the top of my header ment for the Smog Pump or the EGR, not sure which either way it's open... That could do it I suppose lol

i have my EGR and emmisions just welded off. if youre not using them you dont need em! they make block off plates, but you could just weld em shut!
G LUCK and hopefully the POP goes away. whatever it is, it sounds expensive

Yea it could.Doesn't it cause a lot of noise??

Makes a lot of tapping noise, which annoys me but with 0 dollars in bank account I'm sorta at a loss as to what I should do prior to payday

does it pop when you shift really fast or are you letting off on the gas with it still in gear and then shifting. If its the later then the popping or backfiring is normal...i think anyways, mine has always done it if i put it in first or second or whatever and then let off of the gas, it backfires like crazy. My pickup does it too.

If you have emissions legal headers there should be mounts in the first primary on each side of the motor for the air pump. There's also a mount on the last primary on the passenger side for the EGR connection. If any of these are open it will screw with the O2 sensors and cause the motor do pop/back fire and run like crap. Cap them and it should run alot better.

That could explain why it smells like it's running rich and getting about 12-13 mpg lol
