Questioh for All a4 guys~Leave in D or 2?

i was told by a friend of mines that my car would be much quicker off the line and in the quartermile by leaving my car in "2" instead of "D"..he said because it gives a more aggresive timing or spark curve or something..is this true at all?..and what do some of you personally leave yours in on the track & during a occasional stop light run??

I do D.... Try it and see... I had a better 60 when I was in 2, but worse 1/4 due to wheel spin popping it back into D...

2 and D dont change the curve. My car tachs up to redline in 2nd if i leave it in 'D' so I see no need to launch on '2'

Leave it in Drive and let the car shift for you. You would hit the rev limiter if you left it in 2 at the end of the 1/4 . Putting the shifter in 2 at take off does not let the car take of in second..Your tranny has nothing to do with {gives a more aggresive timing or spark curve} Your friend does not know what he is talking about.

I actually perfer to start out in 1 and shift it up once I get going. The reason I do this is because when I launch if I am spinning pretty badly I will let off of the gas a little. Sometimes when I do this it will up shift and then when I floor it again, because I have gained tracktion again, I have to wait on the down shift from 2nd to 1st again. Waste of precious time for me. Anyways just try out different things at the track. You will find out what works best for you and your driving style. Good luck testing.

I do both and there is no difference for me whether I leave it in D or I shift.

i dont know if this is true but..
does 1 help get more traction somehow?
i heard somebody says it does because it's what you use in snow and it works
i dont know, correct me if i'm wrong

1 is the worst gear to drive in snow, makes tires break loose quicker. First gear will never give you more traction....

I start in 1 also. When you lose traction it is more responsive when you feather the throttle. As soon as I rach about 4000 rpm I shift to D and go from there. Wait much longer and your telling your computer when to shift ... computer always knows best in my opinion ... plus you dont want to hit your rev limiter by accident!

also when you shift manualy it puts a little more pressure on the clutches. acctually designed for downshift like going down a hill or somthing, but i usually use 1 2 d for this and the feathering reason also. besides it makes you feel more like a race car driver.

Don't know where you are getting your information, but its wrong.
Your tranny is computer controlled, when you leave it in drive the tranny shifts sooner than if you shifted it manually. When you shift it yourself the computer has to get the signal and tell the tranny to shift. Shifting it yourself does NOT put more line pressure on the clutches.
