Quench and this piston

I have had these pistons for a while and just got around to looking at them. Will the way the top is made be bad for good quench? Instead of it being a flat top with a dish, it has a beveled edge. By looking at it, you'd think some of the mixture would be trapped at the outside of the piston.

Thoughts?? Am I way off base here??

Re: Quench and this piston

What is your determining factor in deciding on that piston?
There are a ton of other options out there that may suit your needs and not have that particular design.

Quench is normally measured from the highest part of the piston...ie distance in the hole... + gasket thickness = X

I don't know if I've ever seen any special calculation for pistons with that design but I could be wrong.

Right, but when that piston comes to TDC the mixture in the dish is almost gonna be seperate from what is in the outer ring(or whatever).

I don't disagree with with you on that but I don't know how much of a difference it would make.

Just curious.

I'm sure someone who knows will chime in eventually!

Maybe I should have put this in "Advanced Tech"?

I believe that is a non quench piston, you probably shouldnt be running it with a quench head. That is more meant for something like a hemi headed engine. If it's working for you now then dont tear down just to replace the pistonsm, but if you ever need new pistons I would avoid that style.

I'm not running them yet. I bought them off of a friend a while back. Came out of a blower car making 600+ rwhp.
