Quality GM Parts???

GM parts are a joke. I open up the new oil level sensor I ordered for my 95 Z, and the POS is made completely of plastic..... I am about 99% sure that the one on my car now is not, the fitting that screws into the pan looks to be copper. To spend $20 on this and receive such a pile of garbage just pisses me off.

Do you have the part number for the oil level sensor? Mine is leaking and really should be replaced. Plastic or not i need to get one. And $20? I thought it was a bit more, where did you get it?

The part number off Shoebox's site is 12579983, when I get a chance to go out to my car, I'll get the number off the box. It was listed on GM Parts Direct for around $12 with $10 or so for shipping. I got it from the local Cheverolet dealer for $20, and I had it in 2 days.

Re: Quality GM Parts???

Isn't it a low oil level sensor and not a oil level sensor?

It is the sensor for the Low Oil light on the dash underneath the speedometer.

I don't think I shot my mouth off, and when I pulled mine out of my car tonight, it was metal, so maybe you should do a little learning before you shoot your mouth off.

If you don't like what it being said in a thread, don't read it.

My 93 has metal on the part that sits on the outside of the pan, the internal part that measure oil level is plastic.

Most break when people yank them out incorrectly or drop something on them. The part is not common for failure.

Part is plastic in my eyes but has a metal shell on the hex portion.

I hate to get in the middle of a cat fight. But I am willing to take that risk to point out that you can't really know if you will like, or dislike, a thread until you do read it

That is all.

You have a point Rich, but I didn't think I made an ignorant statement, but regardless, I'm done with him.

Re: Quality GM Parts???

The metal than on your piece is like mine as you said looking at the piece ie is just a way to cut out an cost that is not needed. Based on the torque specs it is not needed. Even if it is there the thin sheet metal that is really is not doing much.

Both of you guys are correct, now thinking about it I have seen newer 4th gens that are all plastic.

If they were going to change something on the sensor it would be to allow the mechanic to easily remove the elctrical connector without having to use a tool.
