Putting threadlocker(red) on rocker arm bolt?

Aight i picked up the red threadlocker(says for permanent use) for my rocker arm Stud. Since my stupid nut keeps coming off(its loosened up alot), I was thinking of jes putting a dab of this threadlock on the nut to try and hold it in place...I would think jes alil dot on one side wouldnt make it permanent, and it would hold the nut on from shaking loose. Is this a bad idea?

IMO there is no reason for loctitie. Are you torquing the nuts down properly? Did you check the threads in the nut and stud to make sure they are ok?

I wouldn't put loctite on rocker studs. Especially if you have roller rockers with locks.

Hmmmm ok, shoebox told me to put this stuff on there

Well now I dont know what to do.

The reason im thinking of this stuff is because the bolt keeps coming off, so i ordered a new STUD thinking the stud was getting stripped...stupid chevy dealership is taking forever to ship it, so I dont have the new one yet. I even have TWO bolts on there right now and they still loosen, so its gotta be the Stud. Yes Im tightening it down to zero lash like everyone has told me to.

Anymore opinions on threadlocker?

Have you tried the easy approach and replace the nuts? if you loosened and torqued those things enough they become weak and in turn do not stay tight

Ok let me get this straight, you are putting it on the stud for the rocker nutz right? not the side of the stud that bolts into the head? if i am correct then i would first check the stud itself to see if it is coming loose from the head(just incase re-torque it anyways after putting threadlocker on it 50ftlbs) if it is allready torqued good then the rocker nutz are no good. you can only tighten and loosen them so much before they start to loose thier locking ability so if you have new ones on the way. using a little dab of the threadlocker on them for the time being wont hurt, just clean it off the stud when the new nutz come in.If you have roller rockers with poly locks then dont use it on them. you just have toi figure out why are they loosing(ive had that problem before) What i do with my poly-locks is when im close to where i want them EX. like1/4-1/2 turn after 0 lash. i would finish my 1/4-1/2 turn by also tightning the allen screw in the same direction at the same time. that will lock it up very well.....

Well see I have a very rare disease called "stupid". I ordered the stud without a new nut. Noone carrys the nuts either(well the places i went to) so I need to special order them. I guess ill go ahead and order one of those too.

Well actaully the reason I never ordered one before is because I was gonna have a local guy replace all that when he installed my hotcam and RR's..but every weekend something comes up and its getting very hard to reach him, so Ill just fix it myself now.

Actaully I was asking if I should put it on both. I heard I should put it on the STUD that goes into the head. So I thought about it, and said why not put it on the Nut that goes onto the stud? But the more I think of it, I guess ill jes wait for my stud and nut to come in, and jes try that. So for now(or in a few days) I guess ill jes be putting the threadlocker on the stud itself.(haah sorry if its confusing)

It's not going to hurt anything to do this as a temporary fix. Permanent does not mean welded!

You're other thread was referring to replacing the stud. That's why I said to use threadlocker on it (when you screw it into the head). No threadlocker is to be used on the nut or upper portion of the stud.

The stock nuts are of a type called "prevailing torque", that is, they have an interference fit so that they stay tight. Aftermarket nuts that are commonly called "poly locks" do not use interference, but a small allen screw to "jam" the larger nut so it cannot move.

If the stud is coming out of the head then yes you should do as shoebox says and use red loctite otherwise if its the rocker nut then you use nothing.
