I have 97-Z-28 with a 383 LT4. Recently I had a nitrous mishap and it ate one of my SRP pistons (no big deal I purchased an ATI Pro-Charger D1-SC and was getting ready to have it rebuilt to lower the compression to 9:1 anyway). I pulled the motor out of the car to send it back to the machine shop and I pulled the intake off before pulling the motor. I asked the machine shop to install everything back on the motor up to the intake. My question is will I be able to get the motor back in through the top with the intake on? I do have the front on jackstands with the K-member out. Reason being is I just received a BMR tubular k-member. Now I know common sense would suggest putting the motor on the k-member and put it in from the bottom. I just think it would be easier from the top if possible. I also question if there is enough clearance in my garage to get the front of the car over the motor and k-member. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Yes it will go in the top with the intake manifold on. Use the tpis "happy hooker" or a make a tool like it if you can weld. It bolts to the 4 fuel rail bolts and has a J hook that you attatch to. I just did it 2 or 3 weeks ago.

However, with the k-member already out, I would try going in the bottom. You can have the headers and tranny already bolted up that way.

I pulled it with the headers and I was going to try to put them on before dropping the motor in. The tranny is still in the car. Should I pull the tranny and bolt it to the motor first? It was a pain in the butt getting to some of those bolts to remove it from the engine in the first place.

 

no you cant bolt the trany to the block then put it in, because the motor goes in like a front wheel drive car and then you turn it to its correct position then line the dawl pens up and put it in, but you have to take both motor mont brackets off then it goes right in.

 

Gotcha. Both motor mounts are already off. I am using the BMR k-member which has one mount built on. Thanks!
