Putting on a LT-4 intake on a stock motor? And other mod suggestions?
Putting on a LT-4 intake on a stock motor? And other mod suggestions?
A friend has an 95 Z-28 LT-1 A4.
His car is completely stock, and I mean stock!!
If we took off the LT-1 intake, and put on the LT-4 intake, Would he see any gains?
And what basic mods would he need to do, to get the car into the low to mid 13's?
ANd what do these are run in stock from.....What do the 2.73 car's run, and the 3.23 cars's run? I do not know what gear he has, As I have not been in the car yet.....How can I tell what gear?
Hope u guys can help me out.....

Re: Putting on a LT-4 intake on a stock motor? And other mod suggestions?
The effort of installtion of the Lt4 intake by itself isnt worth the gains unless you do a good head job along with a nice cam. (Im currently looking for a nice cam and I will match the heads to cam specs). But If you just wanna get into low 13's its not too hard, I think a full exhaust with some Cold Air would do it.

The LT4 intake will not work with stock heads. You need to have LT4 heads with it.
There probably would not be any gains on a stock motor even if you could fit it on.
2.73 cars run 14-14.5 at 96-98 or so.
With a 3.23 car, you can brake into 13s with good traction.
To get into 13s quickest, you will need a cold air induction kit and a cutout. I'd recommend catback exhaust too.
If he's got 2.73s, a 3.73 gear upgrade would be nice. Stall afterwards. Headers will get you there quick. Nitrous, if that's your thing.
Oh yes, and a tune would help as well.

What Cold Air do u recommend?
Re: Putting on a LT-4 intake on a stock motor? And other mod suggestions?
You can make one yourself, there is a how to make one section on this board somwhere, I can cost less than $30 and get your supplies from home depot. Or you can just buy a used one off this board for cheap too. Moroso and K&N make good Cold air intakes. A good catback is Borla... my favorite!

In the glove box you can tell what gear is in the rear from the G code. The 2.73's are GU2 but i dont know what the 3.23's are. Someone on here will. I like the K&N FIPK (if non ram air) as most of the super fast cars i see (low 11's high 10's) are running the K&N and a descreened MAF.

To the thread poster, i would do headers, stall, gears, catback and CAI. That combo with an A4 car is usually damn close to 12's. Just about any decent single cat headers will get good gains. If he has money to spare i would get some SLP's, AS&M's, or RK sports as they have 1 3/4" primaries. If not Mac's are some good single cat headers too. Catback is really a choice of what you think sounds/looks best and what you can afford. All CAI's are the same but G2's

Well, I 'spose I should clarify my previous response a little. The ports line up fine, but technically Ion is correct, if by stating it won't work, he is implying it won't FIT. It won't fit without some machine work on the head mounting surface, of the heads themselves, or machine the interference from the intake, which is somewhat pointless, as that is the one lone area, that differentiates the two intakes.
