You must remember to port the intake, at the very least port the holes that go right after the TB since does are I believe around 52mm. Also depending where you leave might want to go ahead and do the TB coolant bypass...

You don't give any indication of what mods, if any, are done to the car. If it's basically stock, a larger TB will not help anything.

Do you have a scanner to allow you to correctly adjust the idle, the IAC counts and the TPS voltage?

Is the car an automatic? A grossly oversize throttle body will require reprogramming of the shift points.

The guys at the shop that built my engine laugh at my 58mm TB, since they were able to show me on the engine dyno that the engine maxed out at 500HP at the flywheel with the blades only 77% open. I could have stuck with a 52mm TB and still made the same power.

Re: Putting on a bigger TB

i did plan on adjusting all of those yes. but i was more or less wondering if i would need to upgrade my injectors to compensate for more air or anythng else like that, or would retuning it take care of everything.

Just curious but what is a good scanner to get for that purpose?

You don't need to upgrade injectors.

And the software depends on the year of your car, not to mention reprogramming it yourself isn't something you can just up and do without some knowledge of the PCM. You'd be better off with a mail-order tune.

Datamaster (www.ttspowersystems.com) and Freescan (www.andywhittaker.com) are the first two that come to mind. Both are free, and require an interface cable (www.akmcables.com).

Keep in mind these are only for diagnostic scanning purposes and do not allow changing of parameters.

How is it in terms of use...I'm trying to get a feel for checking stuff like this but am afraid I'll mess something up.....is it pretty self explanatory like easy to use? I think I need one for dummies.

They are fairly straightforward to use. Just hook up the cable to the ALDL, the other end to your computer, run the software, and monitor. You can't do any damage by just scanning. It's an absolutely invaluable tool.

To interpret the scan data, read this:
