Putting in 383 next week, got some ?'s

I just did a cam/heads install, didnt go to well, spun bearings and crap. Not good things. Short block was messed up. Metal got in engine. Dont ask please

I got a 383 Short Block coming on saturday, actually going to pick it up. Its got forged pistons, rods, crank, new bearings, rings, etc.

I got a Comp Cam 305, Heads that are almost identical to LE2 heads. 1.6 roller rockers, hydraulic roller lifters, comp pushrods, manley race valves, extreme duty timing chain, isky springs, high torque starter, CSI Water Pump, 58mm TB, msd 8.5mm spark plug wires, mds coil, msd 6a ignition box, new optispark, edelbrock headers, tork master 2400, built up transmission, stock rear end,\

Im getting the 383 put in for 920 bux. So thats not as bad as i thought.

But I want to know if i will need a new fuel pump, and which one is good to get,

AND I want to get a bigger oil pan, but not one thats gunna drag on the ground, my car is already lowered so i dunno what i could get, Please give me some suggestions,

Thanks,

Nick

I would definately get a new fuel pump, just to be safe. Also send your radiator out and have it checked. Someone else will have to chime in on the oil pan...

This topic should be posted on LT1 Engine Tech, not here on Advanced Tech. Moving it there....

For a pretty straight forward easy install with a good 255 lph pump I'd go with the racetronics pump, its made to fit into all the stock hardware and only requires minor work to get it to fit like the factory pump. the hard part is determining wether you want to drop the tank or cut an access panel out of the floor.

Milodon and moroso both make a slightly deeper pan that will fit in the chasis, just make sure you get the appropriate oil pump pick-up for the pan and your pump.

A milodon deeper sump pan that will basicly bolt in is...MIL-30901
a Moros pan that is really simular is...MOR-20205

Both are 7 quart pans and are 8 1/4 inches deep.

The biggest problem with them is that you will no longer be able to use your low oil level sensor with these pans. But you could modify it to work, but why cut up a good pan.

i'd stay away from canton. do some research you'll find most of us disapointed in them. i wish i would have just stayed with the stock one. 5 quarts is plenty and most of us that are into are cars like you are going to change your oil more frquently than needed. plus this sensor issue.

Stock oil pan would be fine but you may need to notch the pan to clear your crank.Im running a 3.75 stroker crank and the pan had to be notched on the driver side near where the oil filter is.

I second the Racetronix kit. Get the alternator harness too. My car put down a pathetic 320rwhp with a 140k mile stock fuel pump. It didn't give any signs (except for low voltage on my voltage gauge) that it was holding back the power. No hard starts or anything. After replacing it the car is a whole new animal and loses traction big time when it hits the power band. I love it.
