puttin in cam, dowel rod?

puttin in cam, dowel rod?

the dowel on my new comp cam is way lower then the stock one, people said use the stock one, how do i take it out? can the dowel be shorter and still work?

If you did not have trouble with the old dowel pin, simply measure the length with a caliper and carefully tap the new one in until you achieve the same length. Be sure not to mushroom the end of the pin. Use a bras hammer or or hold something against the pin and tap on the object instead of the pin.

Sounds like you are saying your new cam dowel is shorter. For best results, I would take it to a machine shop and have them swap the pins.

yes the new cam has shorter rod. your page is excellent shoebox, used it all this weekend. there is no way to get the dowel out without the shop? spent too much money already

The machine shop probably wouldn't charge you any more than $10 to swap out pins.

how little can the rod be? my rod is less then .5 inches

LOL.

Umm...as mentioned, a shop won't charge much. It's really the safest way. They can be quite hard to get out and you might cause some damage doing it.

lol, well yea besides the little rod how short can it be? i mean maybe i dont ahve to go get it swapped, maybe its long enough?

My stock cam dowel was .650". Some sources say that .620" is long enough.
