Question put new complete steering column in, how to make it work

I changed the entire steering column on my camaro. Have a key for new steering column, but I know that it will not work after I turn the key. Is there any way do get the new steering column to work without taking it apart? I do still have the old steering column that was ingood working order, but my key cylinder was very loose. The new column seems to be much better.

If you want to keep the VATS working, measure the resistance in the pellet in the old and new keys (you might get real lucky and they turn out to be the same ). If needed, have a new key cut with the resistance of the old key, but with the profile of the new key.

If you don't want the VATS, just use a resistor to bypass it, that matches the old key.

Thanks shoebox, do you think locksmith would be able to exchange those little chips on the key?

They just have to select a key blank that has the same pellet as the one you need. Then they cut it to the profile you need. You probably know that the keys with the pellets are much more expensive. The dealer can do it for you, too.
