Dont know if this will apply but my 97 Trans AM just came back form the dealer for a Service Engine Soon light and lack of power The car started and ran fine just felt dog sluggish. To make a long story short it was the Optispark. that didnt fail completly (I have always heard that they work or not) Just my luck It took the dealer three days to diagnose and they had to call in Ponntiac Tech suppport. Runs great now tho.

thanks for the replies, i'm gonna change the plugs/wires first, and change both of the o2 sensors, and possibly the water pump....hopefully that will fix the probs

Changing the water pump won't do anything...

try your coil and coil wire first along with your plugs and wires. Check for vacuum leaks also. It might be a good idea to get your car scanned. If you are getting severe knock you might be getting alot of timing pulled, killing your power.
