Are Pushrods Supposed to be Parallel???
I recently pulled the intake manifold after bending a pushrod and breaking a roller rocker and after putting the valvetrain back together, I noticed the pushrods arent parallel with one another. For instance, take cylinder one, both intake and exhaust pushrods. The bottom(where they sit in the lifters) of the two pushrods is closer together than the top(where the rocker arm sits) of the two pushrods. I have never noticed this before and it really doesnt make sence for them not to be straight or parallel. I have new roller rockers and slightly used (less than 1k) comp R lifters but dont see why either would make them be un-parallel. Im trying to get this car back on the road so any help would be greatly apprecaited.
If I recall correctly, (I did the cam swap a year ago) they will not be parallel to each other. If you look at the lobes on the cam, I think you will find they are much closer together than the valves are on the heads, so the pushrods will angle away from each other the higher you go towards the head.
Ya, I talked to a few local LT1 guru's and they preached the truth about this one. I just hadnt noticed this before and Ive been having all kinds of trouble with this install so I kinda freaked out. Its all good though, she runs like a champ, now all I need is to get a tune and she'll be in prime condition to eat the competition. Thanks man.
