pushrods and oil cooler q's

okay so i have my engine together and figured out i need a 7.1" pushrod. does anyone know where i can get just a hardened one. i dont want to fork out the the extra money for chromoly when i dont feel its need for my application. also does anyone know if you can just buy a replacement for the little fin cooler inside the oil filter adapter, mine was totally full of shavings of bearings from before the rebuild and cant be cleaned. thanks for the help.

It looks like you put together a nice set up. Why not buy some Hi-tech push rods? You may not need them but I wouldn't take the chance that cheaper ones might have some deflection. And are you dead set on keeping the oil cooler? Why not ditch it and just run a larger oil filter.

I'd also recommend ditching the factory oil cooler. I run the same size filter but it help keep the filter even farther away from my headers. I also like that i have access to my oil pan bolts if i ever need to drop the pan.

so are you guys putting block off plates on the oil cooler or just buying a standard filter adapter? still wondering if someone knows where you can get 7.1" hardened rods. thanks for the advice, very much appreciated.

You just have to remove the old oil cooler filter adapter and underneathe that is a regular oil filter adapter. You just have to take the two studs out of it and put in regular bolts.

You can get them from any large parts dealer like Jegs or Summit. But like was already said you have a lot of money in that motor already... whats another $100 for chromoly pushrods?

Re: pushrods and oil cooler q's

well my rev limiter is set to 6200 rpm so its not going to be spun like some of the engines on here. Its not going to be run on the 1/4 more than probably a couple times a year at most. also i have SA rockers so im thinking something else in the valvetrain would prolly go to sh*t before the PR bends. o and so if i just take that oil cooler adapter off theres a regular filter adapter under it?

yes, you just need to remove the bolts there now, and replace with regulat bolts

Comp part number 7938-16

Odd that you need a 7.100" long PR.... seems a little short to me.

Cheap pushrods cause so many problems it blows my mind that anyone even uses them.

block is zero decked and heads have been surfaced twice, valve seats ground twice. its on a cc305 cam. we put a dikem like substance on the valves with a solid lifter and PR checker. we tried to get the travel on each side of the center of the valve about the same. o and im using chromemoly so rest easy ive decided to do it the right way.

Re: pushrods and oil cooler q's

Was the solid lifter the same seated length as the hyd lifter? Most times they are not. If you are going to do it that way you need to convert a hyd lifter to solid and run the test.

Only PR choice you have is the Hi Tech in that length.

Re: pushrods and oil cooler q's

yeah we converted a hyd lifter to solid by filling it with washers until we could just barely put the retaining clip in it. i ordered the PR from summit they were about $100 bucks and said they were hardened, and im pretty sure they said they were chromemoly although i could be wrong, whats the difference in HI Teck PR?

I dont understand why you would run the cc305 cam with solid lifters.. its not a solid lifter cam.

Re: pushrods and oil cooler q's

haha, no im running hyd lifters, we just converted one lifter to solid in order to use a pushrod length checker. thats what you have to do in order to get a right reading for length. dont worry i took the washer outta that lifter before it went into the engine.
