With the new cam, comp R lifters, and 1.6 RR.
Will i need a new length of pushrod, or stock length work ok?
I read comps guide to checking length and it just confused me.

I know this doesnt help any but the only sure way to check is with an adjustable pushrod.
Im going to out on a limb and say a stock length one should work...was there any other work(milling the heads) done?

When I bought by Crower 1.6RRs they came with .050"+ push rods. I don't know why.
Anyway, I haven't had any trouble with them (that I know of) and since then I had a small 210/224 cam installed along with ported Lt1 heads.
As someone said, the best way to check for proper geometry (the pattern of the RRs striking the valve stems) is with an adjustable rod.JMHO

Impossible to say for sure what the "correct" length is. Hell, it can change from one rocker arm brand to the next.... I've personally seen this.
Serious question... what don't you understand about the checking procedure? Maybe we can help some there but I still feel that you should always check. Yeah, you can just throw stock length in there but where that roller tip actually rides on the stem plays a big part in how long your valve guides last.

To put it simply, a longer pushrod will cause the roller on the tip of the rocker to ride on the part of the valve tip closest to the center of the engine. A shorter one the opposite. You test where you are with current pushrods and adjust from there if necessary.
Ok this is what i dont understand about checking length.
Lets say i buy an adjustable pushrod. I install it. Then what do i do/look for? In my ignorance it seems a different length pushrod would simply change the amount of lift at the valve you would get. Shorter pushrod = less lift? I really dont understand this.

Get some Toolmakers die ink. (spray can) It's a dark blue and doesn't stick well to a surface. Paint the tip of the valve. With the stock pushrod in place manually turn the engine so the valve you're checking goes thru an open and close cycle. The roller tip does not stay in one position on the valve tip, but makes some movement perpendicular to the crank centerline. The roller will take the die off where it touches. Like I said before, where it takes off the die, will determine what adjustment is necessary in pushrod length.
A shorter or longer pushrod will not alter the valve lift because our rockers move up and down on the rocker stud to compensate for that when the valve lash is set. But it might affect where the roller touches the valve tip.
More than likely the stock pushrods will give a pattern in the center of the valve tip. I believe it takes a lot of decking, head resurfacing, and valve lift to change the postion of the roller on the tip.
