Pulling my engine soon - can the headers stay on?

I'm going to be doing my engine swap soon and I have Jet Hot long tubes. I have the intake off, and everything forward of the timing cover is removed. The heads are still bolted on. Will it be possible for me to unbolt the steering linkage and pull the engine with the headers still attached? I am really not looking forward to removing them if I don't have to.

I don't think they fit coming out the top but can't say for sure because when we put the engine back in I had the LTs sitting on the K-member so we could bolt them in. I would say probably not or it would be a very very tight fit.

So you just unbolted the headers and pulled the engine with them sitting in the engine compartment?

take them off and make your life a lot easier! they become a pain in the *** and its just best to get them out of there so you have more wiggle room.

If they weren't such a pain in the ***, I would.

If I had a lift, that would be an option. But, I'm doing this in my driveway. There's no way I can get the front end of the car high enough to clear it.

When I took my engine out the top it still had the manifolds on it so I didn't have to worry about headers when it came out. I put headers on it when I put the engine back in and laid them in the engine bay IIRC. I was just guessing that it would be a PITA to try and wiggle that engine out of the top with the headers attached.

Ok, gotcha. Thanks guys.

I'm going to try and pull the engine with them unbolted and in the engine compartment. If it doesn't work, I'll just pull them off.

Yea unbolt them and leave them tied up in the car. That way ya don't have to fool with the exhaust. Same with the air and power steering.

I dropped the K in my driveway. I lifted the car up using the lower radiator support and upper tie bar by wrapping a tow strap up down and all around them and lifting it with my engine hoist. It's a hell of a lot easier than coming out the top.

Back to the original question, I'd just take them off.....I can't imagine it would come out very easy with them on.

You don't need a lift.. obviously you already have a cherry picker if you plan to pull it out the top, and that's all you need.

Here's a pic from when I did mine:
