Pulling motor out top, do you have to disconnect the A/C rad.

As listed above, do you have to disconnect the a/c radiator and compressor to do this? Also can I just unbolt the compressor from the ***. bracket and just pull the p.s. pump, idler and bracket out and just tie the compressor to the side? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....John.

Your going to need to yank just about everything in front of the motor to pull it out from the top. Your gonna need all the room you can get.

I know what your thinking... If you don't have to take out the condensor and compressor, then you wont have to break the lines loose and lose all your refrigerant. Well, I don't think your gonna get there without yanking it out. You "might" be able to get it, but why take a chance of have a 500 pound engine smack up against the condensor and kill it? Not worth a couple cans of refrigerant to me...

I have done it. But it is not easy. I took it all out when I went to put it back in. Did not want to fight it like I did coming out.

I came out the top, and went back in through the bottom. Save yourself the the headache and drop it out the bottom.

Agreed, go out the bottom for sure. I just yanked the motor out of my 95 Z to replace with an all-forged 355. There is NO EASY WAY as far as avoiding pulling the accessory hoses, wires, and connections - they will all have to go.

Check out the page (http://www.michiganspeed.com/enginepull/index.html). It was forwarded to me by 95wannabe who also did this. It's not nearly as painful as you might think. Just label everything...

You can pull the motor out the top w/ the A/C compressor and all lines hooked up without evacuating the system. What I did when I pulled my motor was pull it out the top after removing hood, intake, front accessory bracket and all other accessories, cowl trim, radiator. The only thing left on the front of the motor was the crank hub. It is tight, but it will come out that way w/o evacuating. Now, getting it back in and hooked up would be a major pain. I pulled my k-member since I went tubular and everything went back in from the bottom. Good luck.

Are you pulling motor and trans together? If so jack the *** end of your car way up and you can pull the motor almost straight up instead of pulling it out then up. Helpfull hint, an engine leveler is a huge help.

I removed practically everything when I removed mine from the top. My refigerant was already drained so It didnt matter if I removed my AC hookups.

It was fairly easy considering it was my first engine removal.

I did not remove the ac components when I lifted the engine out....although it was almost just the block left:

Came back in the same way with heads 'n intake all on but no wp or hub/balancer though...had to remove the plastic peace that sits around the wipers to be able to get it in...
So I would remove the wp and hub/balancer before taking it out from the top..

You can unbolt the AC comp and leave it in the car without breaking any lines. Remove rad and all acc's off of front.Remove outer weight from balancer. You can leave the power steering in the car without breaking lines. When you come out,if it is slung about level, angle the front to the drivers side and the back to the other side and come on out.
A "Happy Hooker' makes it a lot easier.
