pulling the motor.

I have done a few searches and have found only 2 walk throughs for taking the motor out. I have a blown head gasket, but with a 125K on the motor I want to take it out and have a look see at the block as well so I am just gonna pull the whole motor.

But I would like to see some web sites from those who have done this, through the top or out the bottom it doesn't matter to me only which one is easier. I am thinking about out the bottom because I would like to add LT headers at this time.

Any help with links...........

out the bottom is the easiest. I have done it both ways. You need to take less off the motor to pull it from the bottom.

i disagree.. while it MIGHT be faster you still have to pull all that crap off the engine either way! even if u do drop it from the bottom it would be such a PITA trying to fool around unbolting the tranny while its on the ground! and the having to mess around with pulling the engine with the kmember on the ground doesnt seem very time efficient to me! not to mention that you have to lift the car up pretty high to get the engine out from under it!

just pull the tranny and get yourself a happy hooker and your life will be soo much easier! i can pull my engine out COMPLETLY, BY MYSELF in 2hrs and 42 min that includes removing the tranny (M6) i timed it last time i did it... its all about the happy hooker

go to www.tpis.com click on tpis catalog, the click on tools and test equipment, then click on engine hoist accessories

How are you raising the car body up? are you lifting the rear also?

Well, the way I did it is put the rear on 2 regular ramps, then raise the front.

2 floor jacks, 2 jackstands and a couple of concrete blocks to put the jackstands on, when the body was higher.

Yeah, you have to take stuff off either way, but with the out the bottom method, there is no car surrounding the engine/trans. That's gotta be easier than disassembling/assembling it in the car.

There are pros and cons to each way. It's just a matter of preference.

AFAIK, you mount it on the top of the intake manifold. Probably using the fuel rail bolts.
What it does is allows you to maneuver the angle at which the engine comes out.

I took it out through the bottom myself and I'm pretty sure I'll put it back in myself as well. Probably the only time I might need help is for someone to hold the wheels straight and put the shock bolts in while I'm raising the cradle, but other than that, it can be done without a problem.

yea thats exactly where i was thinking that you might have some trouble! as well as like lining up the shocks into the shock towers etc.. that sounds like it will be a PITA
