Pulling Heads

How Hard Would It Be To Pull The Heads Off A 97 LT1 Engine. My Wife Drove It And It Ran Real Hot And I Ran A Test On It And I Know For Sure The Head Gaskets Are Bad Now. And Maybe The Heads To. I Have Built The Older Motors Like The 283 327 350 And So On But Am Up It Age Now. But I Have All The Things To Do It With And A Garage. Thanks

Re: Pulling Heads

It's difficult but not too bad. You don't have much space to work with and that's the problem. You just want to take a lot of pictures beforehand on where the vacuum hoses, fuel injectors and other electrical parts go.

Re: Pulling Heads

I am planning to try that this winter. Similar situation. Hope it goes well for you. I understand that the manifold bolts are some of the biggest problem area. Report here so many others can benefit from your expierences.

Re: Pulling Heads

Shoebox's cam removal writeup covers the intake manifold removal very thoroughly.

4th Gen LT1 F-body Cam Removal

And download the 96 factory service manual (virtually identical to 97):

You don't want a free download as posted in a previous reply?

The original supplier of the printed factory manual (Helminc) does not appear to offer them anymore. You can usually find a used printed manual at various places online, if that is what you want. Be prepared to spend up to $100.
