Pulling Engine

Ok, I have most of my stuff for my upcoming mods, doing a heads/cam swap. I have been trying to figure out how I want to approach this. Originally I would have liked to keep the engine in the car, however, I have a couple oil leaks that need to be tracked down and Im gonna be replacing my rear main seal. Would it be easier to just pull, or drop, whichever is easier, the engine to install my heads cam, seals, etc? Im kind of leaning towards pulling so installing everything would be easier, but how hard is it to pull the engine, whats the best and/or fastest way to pull, etc? Any and all advice will be appreciated.

I will also be using the 170-901LT1 CSI H2O Pump, 1994 Opti, and Cloyes(sp) Double Roller. What, if any, mods will need to be done to the timing cover?

If your not rebuilding I'd recommend leaving your block in and doing your heads/cam in place. Now would be a good time for longtube headers if you can swing it, they will make good use of the new hp. Good luck.

If you have access to a lift, drop it from the bottom, if not pull radiater, fans, exhaust, and hood. Then you can pull engine and tranny out together from the top.

I plan on doing LT headers, this is a pretty major build up. Full exhaust, head work, CC306, and a little suprise in the intake dept.

Pull it. I got so mad at my car trying to do heads/cam in the car that I'm surprised I didn't start beating it with whatever was handy. Mostly the heads were a pain.........

pulling it out the bottom is so easy, just get a hoist and attach it to the stb...and lift it up after u have taken the k member bolts out...then just slide the whole motor/trans/steering out...took me about 2 hours having never done it before...got some wierd looks from my neighboors too...haha

STB? strut tower brace? did you pick the front of your car up with a hoist attached to the strut tower brace? i would never think that it could hold that much weight. anyone else ever tried it that way? is there a place to hood too on the core support or anywhere else? i am curious about this too because when it warms up around here my motor is coming out for a complete build up.

Ive done it from the top and the bottom. The bottom on a lift is easy. The top is a little harder. For me. I also done 2 from the bottom on the ground. I had everything loose. ecept 1 k-member bolt on each side. I lowered it all down. Then Took out those bolts. Then took turns jacking up the car on each side untill I could pull the complete K-member, engine, and trans out together. Just take your time. If something wont come loose its still conected.

I am debating the same thing. I am doing a complete engine rebuild on a 93Z, then a head/cam/longtube/stall install on a 94 T/A. I think I am going to drop both of them out the bottom, man there's no damn room to work in there.

Here are two links that might be useful.

Now if I had a lift I would drop the engine out. But if I did it at home with nothing. I would do it in the car.

I dropped mine out the bottom by myself only using a floor jack to get the body up.
