Pulleys?

I am going to install some March Pulleys on my car on Saturday. I am just wondering if there is anything i need to know before i start? I have a 1997 Z28 6-speed. I saw in one of the other posts that one guy said they caused nothing but problems, what is he talking about? Do the pulleys mess up my computer or anything? Please help.

i feel that the cons out way the pros on the pullies. they really only add a few hp depending on your setup. and the take power away form your alt as well as other things

Pulleys?

Has anyone else had problems with pulleys? I wonder if it has to do with the OBDII cars that they cause problems with? Please help

I've always heard mixed reviews. My friend has a pulley...for some reason, out of balance somewhere, he keeps eating serpentine belts!!

I've decided for the amount of gain, I'm just gonna move the pulley WAY to the bottom of the want list.

The only problem I have had with the pulleys is if you sit in traffic to long like 2 hours stop and go in FL heat.
And you have to put the balancer back on. I have a friend that didn't put his back on and he started having overheating problems. To make a long story short he messed up his gear for the water pump being unbalanced. It took about 6 months for it to happen.

HEY!!!!
Go for it. I also drive a 1997 Camaro Z28- 6spd. I've had the pulley's changed- Crank pulley and alternator pulley. I didn't do the waterpump pulley. Anyway, I can certainly tell the difference in power. Just don't forget to turn your lights off even for 5 minutes.
Well if you're going to idle a lot such as in traffic bumper to bumper or at a bank- for a while, then make sure you rev up the engine for a bit because now your alternator has to spin faster because of the smaller pully to charge up the battery.
But definitely worth it. No problems. Just be cautious if you're running everything such as a/c, radio, wipers, lights all together that's all.
I bought my pulley set off of ebay. Then I found another seller selling a pollished alternator pulley that I had put on instead of the one with the kit. So I have an extra brand new alternator
pulley if anyone wants it. It's the smaller one. Underdrive or overdrive- I forget what they call it.

There is no water pump pully. Your water pump is driven off your crank gear.

hehe...besides they are pretty much a waste of time and money?

The only negatives I know about pullies besides the loss of money for the cost is that some people have run into charging problems. Changing the alternator pulley will help that out. Although it will impact the overall 1hp you may free up by using pulleys.

I was going to get pulleys but I decided I wanted to install a decent radio system and will need all the power I can get. Instead of the pulleys i'm going to get a Lightened SLP steel flywheel when I install the new clutch. should do about the same if not better than the pulleys as far as HP goes, rev faster, and still give me normal a/c, and charging.
