Puffing Smoke Problem?

OK i did my LT4 cam kit swap, cam/springs/rocker arms, i reused the valve seals. i know there bad and i have replace 3 cylinders so far. When i punch it smoke comes out the back like burning oil from the seals sometimes. everytime i punch it to like 90-100 tons of smoke comes out. It looks like i was in a burnout pit.... any solutions. or just think its the rest of my valve seals

Re: Puffing Smoke Problem?

They would have to be very bad - valve guide seal leaks usually show up as a puff of blue smoke at start up. To test for leaking valve guide seals on a used car, I let the engine idle at least 30 mins, then I rev it up to redline...a small blue cloud indicates that a test drive is needed. Go out and drive the car hard, if you get blue everytime you punch it, it is very UNLIKELY to be valve guide seals, it's hard to get that volume of oil to leak past them.

If you get blue smoke everytime you floor it during that test drive, I'd suspect rings or intake manifold gasket leak. On our engines (unless some builder mucked it up), rings are unlikely. Suspect your intake manifold gasket.

Put a wrench on your intake bolts, are they tight? Even the ones over cylinders 4, 6, and 8?

Hope this helps. - JM.

PS - why would you not replace you valve guide seals while you were replacing your springs?

Re: Puffing Smoke Problem?

Because im not smart. but could the rockers be unadjusted correctly causing valve float........ I had my mechanic do it and i help/watched him do the intake manifold... Im not leaking any fluids at all if that helps. but yes i do get the blueish smoke at start up then goes away a few seconds later. but i know those are bad

Jake, did you put your intake gaskets in dry? or did you use a coating?

If I was you, I would yank the intake and see if oil is getting sucked into the intake ports.
