Project Update: 355 LE2 Head / LE3 Cam is in, running, and on the road...

The bad, my tranny is still the one previously slipping, so I had to have pcmforless bump my shift points down to the low 6k's (6200)... car shifts before the powerband is used up, that kinda sucks and you can feel it shortshifting, so it probably doesn't feel as powerful as it really is. Good thing is the tranny doesn't slip w/ the lower shift point.

This cam seems to want more gear and more stall than my 3.73's and 3200 can offer it. Car's got alot of motor now but it seems not enough drivetrain. It's "ok" at part throttle, but I think the part throttle tune leaves a bit to be desired. I'm not used to running a cam this size so it's hard to tell what is surge and what is breakup at times... it feels relatively smooth though, and the car gets up to speed pretty damn quick, even with 3 people in the car.

Oil pressure is nice and steady, similar to stock, but definitely higher... the pump is set to max out at 70psi, following the 10psi per 1000 rpm rule. I didn't notice any dips in pressure.. the lowest it ever dips to is about 20 when it's near done decel.

Basically I think the car needs a full dyno tune, including a part throttle tune. Not sure where in Florida to go.. Needs more stall, and needs more gear before I think she's track worthy. I have the preload at 1/4 turn.. I need to back off some, I was going on the "safe" side due to my previous issues.

Good thing is my car is up and running, no funny noises, good oil pressure, seems to make decent power even when short shifting. It's good to have her back, can't wait to be 100%. I'm breaking her in hard, going down the street and making some WOT passes back and forth then letting her cool down. Did that twice today, will probably do a few more tomorrow... the rain hit and I was on ET Streets.

Car does manage to idle decently once warmed up as well.

Javier,

Yeah that puppy wants to go to around 6800 and come out of the hole at 3500rpm and over so once your tranny is setup it will really haul *****. Hell even a 4000 stall would be killer.

Bret,

Thanks, I figured I'm kinda lugging it out of the hole with the 3200 stall and than shifting when it's picking up hard past 6k RPM. I'm thinking 3800-4000 stall on her, and whenever a 12 bolt or 9 inch goes in, 4.30's... the 3.73's were too wussy for even my 224/230 back in the day..

Out of curiosity, what kinda power loss does a nasty leak at the #1 primary offer? My damn Hooker LT slip fit is just that.. a slip fit.. you can hear the leak under the hood.

def glad to be out in the car today. felt good for a brand new motor, and imo crappy tune. really does need more stall and gear and then she will be moving. felt great though. weird thing to me is how we didnt do any suspension work and the car didnt feel as quick as i expected but the speedo moved pretty quick.

It could be the reason your part throttle problem exhists. It can be throwing your O2 readings off.

Jeremy is coming down the 23rd to 24th for dyno tunes, spots are filling up... Its going to be in broward, I'm not sure what shop exactly, I'll have to talk to my friend. My friend made 420+rwhp through a turbo 400 and a huge stall with his out of the box 205's, and 224 cam in his ls1, went 11.1 on motor, so Jeremy has to be doing something right with the tunes...

Yeah that cam likes gear and stall, you just can't make the same midrange TQ with more duration and it's not even a lot of duration in the grand sceme of things, it's just that you were used to more midrange with the old cam.

Get that #1 sealed, I've used copper gasket seal to make sure everything is good in there.

Thanks.. either way it still feels quick as hell. Blew off my ET Streets for almost two gears straight on the street

For the seal do you mean the copper permatex RTV? (the orange stuff?):

I'll get all the bugs worked out as soon as the funds allow it I'm thinking the dyno tune is first to fix the part throttle tune and tweak it out.
