Project LT1 503 cam

Previously car went 12.70's 8.10 in the 660 with a 1.80 60'

89 mph in the 660 and 108 up top.

Set up was a stock LT1 with short headers, cut out, 3.42 rear, 26" BFG DR, 2800 converter, and thats it.

This week we swapped in a 503 camshaft, springs set up with 150# on the seat 380 open. Stock rockers, chrome moly .080 pushrods. Everything else is stock.

We did go to an electric WP, reason is the spline coupler was stripped and we found a CSR with housing local on craigslist for $100....so It was a quick and easy fix.

So we are shooting for 12.20's or so with this......Its more of an experiment than anything, most everything was bought second hand besides gaskets and springs. So I guess you could call it a budget bracket racer.

I will post results, I'm sure I will run into some tuning issues.

a 503 should be a good stout cam for that setup. 12's will be easily obtainable w/ LT's and some weight reduction. I hope you prove me wrong though

I have a feeling its going to run pretty good. Just something to play around with for this season. Next season we will have a fresh motor, heads bigger cam etc. But want to see what responds well....And thought we would try used stuff we find to kind of help people out to see what can be done on a budget.

Not much.....the cam springs water pump etc. for this was about $400. I did all the labor free

The car was purchased about 5 weeks ago for $2800

wow lol thats a budget racer and strong running car as is.
good luck. i think you could use more converter, even on the stock car. 1.80 60 foot is alittle slow for that setup. a 3400 would get that thing moving better

But good luck, i'd be curious what your new times will be

I think we are going to a 4-4500, but waiting for now. I think the next big thing is a 9" and 4.11's.

yes, rear drag shocks, UMI tq arm, rear control arms. That all was on it when we got it.

Front qa1's expected soon. K-member/a-arms next winter.

I can see a 4000 stall. other than that i think you'll be too high up. Your peak torque will probly be around 4300-4500 and you dont wanna be too much over that. It is said that you want to be 500 rpms below peak tq.

Update

Well everything is installed, test driven etc. and runs good.

Will try to get a little tuning in this week, maybe up the shift points and be off to the track next weekend with it and post up some results.
