Talking Professional Cylinder Head Porting Services

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who out there wishes they could get an awesome set of ported LT1 heads flowing over 270 CFM with 2.00 and 1.56 Manley Race flow valves, comp three angle valve job, milled to desired combustion chamber, comp 987 valve springs, comp 10 degree retainers and locks, trickflow spring cups, new viton valve seals and ready to bolt on for $1250 shipped? If you send me your cores I will do all this work to them, assemble with the same quality part and ship them back for $1000. I have been selling these heads for several years outright from my shop and a set here and there on ebay. Maybe some of you have heard of me, Jacob Cook at Proflow Performance. I am also offering our stage 2 cylinder head porting service only for your Lt1 aluminum heads for $550 with return shipping, the heads will have a three angle valve job to accept the stock 1.94 , 1.50 valves or 2.00 and 1.56 valves, you choose. The guides will be machined to .500 OD for the use of double coil springs and the spring pockets will be machined so spring cups can be installed if desired. This consists of the same quality port work as stated above. We can build you pretty much any head setup you want! All heads ported in my shop come with there on flowsheet, we are able to do all of our own flowbench testing is house with our Superflow 600 with flowcom to give the most accurate flow numbers possible! All port work, machine work and assembly is done in house.
Thanks for your time,
Jacob Cook

Two things Jake...

1. Stop running crap *** valve springs on there that people will have to replace.

2. Put a set on a car with a known cam and throw out some dyno numbers for these guys if you want to sell something.

Gotcha Ace!
First off, I have never once had a problem with the 987 valve springs, I sell them all the time. All of my customers have the option to upgrade any part on any cylinder head that is purchased from me. I put a budget friendly package together that can be further improved upon if the buyer can afford it. As far as dyno numbers, I have LT1 engines making over 400 RWHP with this same head setup, 306 cam, free flowing exhaust and tuning. Do yourself a favor and don't act like a jerk, no one appreciates it.

3 angle valve job is not "performance" IMHO.

What is the breakdown on the pricing? Guide work, cleaning and VJ, porting, surfacing, parts, etc?

What I mean by a comp three angle valve job is that this valve job was done by an experienced machinist on a sunnen VGS-20 seat and guide machine with less than .001 valve seat runout and the valve job offers superior cfm numbers compared to most. We also call our 5 angle valve job a comp valve job.
Steel Guides replaced and sized and honed to proper specs. $5 each
Bronze Guides (optional) $8 each
three angle valve job on VGS $75 per set
five angle valve job (optional) $125 per set
cleaning and assembly $60
resurfacing and cc chambers $35each
stage two port and polish, unshroud valves, polish chambers $500
10 degree retainers $65
10 degree locks $35
valve springs $90
spring cups $35
viton valve seals $25
bead blast head $25 each
machine guide OD to .500 $40 set
cut spring pockets larger $30 set

Jake,

Shelf cams like a Comp CC-306 will do OK with the 987's till about 6000rpm and then they aren't enough. That's about as much as you can go in terms of aggressiveness on the lobes, which is not saying much.

I've tested all sorts of springs and valvetrains and if you want to do that go ahead, but unless you tell customers what they can and can't run with them you will be in trouble.

IMO, 6000rpm is not enough to give a durable package to a customer, and most will turn them higher than that.

Thanks - I do it a little differently.

Guidework(R&R, cut for pos seal, hone to spec) $144

Radius Comp VJ(teardown/inspection, cleaning, seats shot, bowl and chamber blend, backcut valves, assemble/set spring pressures) $432

Surfacing with PCD / CC chambers $115

I only use bronze guides with stainless valves - cast and SS don't like each other. K-liners or false replacements - up to the customer.

I do agree with the 987's not being able to handle over 6000 rpm's, but the 306 cam performs it best within the 1800-5800 RPM range. We offer many other cam and spring combos. One of our more popular springs are the comp 918. which can be upgraded for $100. If people do not know what they are buying I strongly urge them to ask questions before buying a specific setup.

Heads..

Hello Jake this is Lonnie from Drexel, Missouri.

I have a set of your heads I bought from you last winter. I have been running them for almost 1 yr. now. and have no problems with them. but I did have you put on the k-motions 800 dual coil springs. good to .600 lift. and Im running the bigger 2.00/1.56 manley valves on them. Im running the cc306 cam. heads seem to be holding up fine. I only spin the revs to 6200 because Im trying to make the stock bottom end hold up since it has 150,000 miles on them. but I couldn't be happier. car has no problem revving over 6,000 rpm's.

You get my vote of approval. still need to get dyno numbers but car runs strong.

Lonnie,
Good to hear from you and glad you are pleased with the performance of your vehicle. If you ever get the chance I would love to see your dyno numbers!
Keep in touch!

could you post some flowbench numbers or actual flow sheets for the stage 2?

Also how much extra cfm is there to be gained by going with the 5 angle valve job?
