Question Problems With EVAP

Well, the dealership changed my EGR valve under that "special circumstance" (thanks guys) recall last week, and my SES light just popped up AGAIN! When I helped me scan my car last time, the only trouble codes were the EGR, and that bank 1 was running rich (which I guess the EGR could cause). When I got the car back form the dealership, they said that my EVAP was malfunctioning, but didn't check what was wrong (because I didn't pay them). Anyways, I need to find out for sure what's happening with the car. I need to get these codes scanned. Do you guys think the dealership may have purposely done something to my EVAP system? I don't understand why that code didn't show up before I took it there. Where do I start in diagnosing my EVAP system? Thanks for everyone's help!

The first place to start would be to check out the EVAP canister that resides inside your left rear wheelwell. THe hoses sometimes come off and cause vacuum leaks. Other than that the solenoid for the valve fails, and thats a cheap replacement.

Question

What? The EVAP canaster is inside the left REAR wheelwell? Does anyone have pics? I don't remember ever seeing that.

if you remove the plastic cover that is located in the wheel well you can see the EVAP canister. The plastic is held by two screws and some clips. I wish I had a digital camera to show you. Hope that helps out. good luck

Oh, I know what you're talking about! OK, so the hoses, I imagine, connect to the top of the canister? I'm going to have to take the whel off, aren't I? Also, I saw a solid metal pipie up in there. Is that my fuel filler?

It looks/feels a lot like an exhaust pipe, and looks to run just above the EVAP. I thought it maybe connected to the fuel door.

OK, cool. WHen I get my wheel off, how many hoses should be connected to the EVAP. What is their routing to the motor, in case I have to follw the lines? Thanks for all the help.

hmmmmm, there should be 3 lines that go to the evap canister. also there is a evap purge valve that is located between the hoses that goes the the tank and to the evap caniters. You might wanna check those lines and see if they are still in good shape. Here is a link to a pic of the evap lines in the engine http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/1995_evap.jpg. You might wanna get a haynes, chilton or even a dealer shop manual that you could get from ebay which would help you out alot for the lines that run to the evap to the engine. Hope that help. Good luck and if you need anymore help you could e-mail me or send me private message.

The evap, all I know is for smog and also on start ups it takes the fumes out of the gas tank I think Its better to ask questions now than not ask them at all and not learning anything. You know what I mean I have asked alot of questions on this board and have learned alot. And most of the people here on this board don't mind to help out.

Cool.
I think I remember that when the dealership worked on the car last year, that some sort of tube that allows the gas vapors to escape was all melted, and plugged up. They didn't know what caused this, but replaced the lines. Anyone know what could cause this? Could this be throwing my EVAP codes?

OK, I got the car scanned for myself, and the only code being thrown is:

1441: EVAP Control System Flow During Non-Purge

I checked the hoses, and they appear to hooked up well. Where should I start to trouble shoot this? Are there any fuses or connections I should check? I'd like replacing the entire canaster be the last step in the proceedure.
