Re: Problems with cc305 cam install

Not really sure how but it cured my 89 iroc. maybe a safty issue of some sort telling it not to fire at higher rpm`s as it thinks the oil pressure is not high enough. hey at this point what do you have too lose. Just a thought as this happen to me and replacing the oil sending unit fixed the problem. Mike......

Re: Problems with cc305 cam install

What kind of lifters did you put in? 1/3 of a turn seems like quite a bit. Comp R lifters generally like 0-1/16 of a turn , and stockers or stock replacement sometimes like as little as 1/8-1/4.

I'm not saying oil pressure sending unit wouldn't do it, but mine went to 0 at WOT becasue it was sucking the pan dry, and it didnt have any performance issues, this is in a 93 though.

Re: Problems with cc305 cam install

I am wondering how the oil pressure sensor is going to cause a miss on an LT1 f-body. On some cars, the oil pressure sensor also has the function of cutting off the fuel pump if oil pressure gets too low, but this is not so on the LT1 f-body. Only one wire comes from the sensor and it goes to the gauge.

There he is with the oil pressure gauge suggestion, lol. Mike did you get your tranny out? It's nice to see all our local guys in this thread. Ask Flyboy how he likes his car.

timing marks

corrected the install height
checked firing order, like 23 times
adjusted rockers
installed new fuel pump, the car ran better for two days, then started running bad again, at the same time as the fuel pump install, we milled some material off the rocker arms because the S/A part of the rockers were hitting the valve retainer and the roller wasn't hitting the valve
tune
disconnected MAF
different coil/module
drove with a scanner hooked up, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary, timing was fine untill it started missing/backfiring, then it pulled timing out.

could a lifter be collapising under load? the more load the car is under the worse it is.

Any ideas. we have almost literally tried everything.
Did you ever change the filter?? It doesn't show in the list, sorry! If you changed the pump and it ran fine for 2 days, and didn't change the filter, then I think you missed a little something there! That would cause this problem!

Re: Problems with cc305 cam install

yeah, the filter has been changed. I don't understand why it ran fine for two days after the pump install either. its' been a while since I have actually listened/worked on the car, he has true duals with the short bullet mufflers on it, you can't hear yourself think. I think i'm going to get the car at the end of this week or begining of next, put some quiet mufflers on it so I can actually hear the engine.

For a miss under load strongly suspect fuel supply and ignition. If fuel supply is poor, obviously its going to be bad under load. A stronger spark is required to ignite a heavier gas/air mixture. If distributor cap, PLUGS, or wires are not good, then there will be a problem here too.
