Problems with Canton pan( Canton pan and HV pump users inside)

Ok SO I am trying to get this car running and for three weeks I have been fighting the same problem. I have a Canton road race pan ( #15-242T) the pick up I recieved was the (#20-020), and I have the M155HV Melling pump. My question is... is there supposed to be so much of a space in between the pick up tube and the oil pump intake hole? I mean there is like a 1/8th of a inch all the way around the tube. It looks now like I should have it welded all the way around.I mean I expected it to tightly fit, and then a tack weld it. Plus the little flange on the side bolts up to one of the bolts on the bottom of the pump. So is there a reason to even check the clearence? I already searched the threads and nothing. Looking for some help from other people that have done this. Thanks for the help.

By the way you described it, it sounds like the pickup tube is to small for the oil pump hole. Is that correct?

Check your part number on the pickup. The 20-010 is for standard volume pumps and 20-020 is for high volume pumps. I didn't see a 20-023.

Doesn't the M155HV have a 3/4" opening? I bet the 20-023 has a 5/8 or smaller tube.

Well I just went and checked the pickup and the part number on the side is the 20-020. So I don't understand. Maybe they put the wrong tube on that one? This is really irriatating me.

I have it figured out. I need the 20-023 pick up. They make the 20-020 for standard high volume pumps. But the #M155HV has a enlarged pick-up inlet tube. Which the 20-023 has the enlarged tube. Thanks for the help though.

Was it bolted up like that when it came??? I just built my motor with the Canton pan and wanna know exactly what your talking about. From what your saying is that the pickup basically doesn't fit into the pump right?? Let me know. Hope mine is right.
