for some reason my car has been bouncing off the rev limiter once or twice while im racing someone. i just noticed it a couple weeks ago. my car is automatic. last night i was racing a 5.0 mustang from a roll( that ive already beaten) i put it in regular drive at 50 and floored it, when it hit about 70 or 75 it hit the limiter, and needless to say i lost. also, i ran a friend of mine for fun last night on the street from a stop, so i just left it OD. anyway, we take off and when my car hit 2nd gear it hit the limiter once and then had a quick backfire, not real loud but i heard it. there were a couple more incidents from last nigth when i hit the limiter for some reason. i dont have any mods that would contribute to this so can anyone tell me whats wrong with my car?

 

Sounds like you have a problem with your trans not shifting into 3rd gear under WOT. I beleive your 93 still has a trans throttle cable (kickdown), if it is out of adjustment it could cause shifting probems. A more likely problem though would be a sticking shift govenor or valve.

In the mean time, watch your RPMs and let up a little to let it shift before redline.
