Problem of not starting

1993 Camaro

Okay I was on my way to the gym today and I was driving just fine. I was accelerating about 10mph over the speed limit and saw a cop so I began to brake to get back down to 40mph so I wouldn't be pulled over. All of a sudden when I reach about 42mph my car dies. You could hear the engine just kind of fade away. I tried to push on the accelerator and nothing would happen, I could just push it to-and-fro. Then I began to brake again to slow down to turn into a parking lot, braking was rough, and the steering was so incredibly tight. Just like it is in neutral. So I get into the parking lot, and I'm wondering what the heck is going on. Recently the transmission and alternator, oh and belts have been changed on the car. I was going to change the fuel pump as soon as I finished school next week. I've heard 93' Camaros have real problems with fuel pumps.

So I attempt to start my car. I can turn the key to start it, and it actually starts to purr. But the engine just won't turn over. It's not like how my starter was when that went out, how it wouldn't even start to turn over, it'd just click. I tried having a friend kick the fuel pump while turning the ignition, but we didn't have too much help there. The light come on, the battery I believe is fine. I'm low on gas, but not THAT low.

I'm wondering if any of you have an idea as to what's going on at all. Thanks for any help.

if your not low on fuel then it's got to be your alternator sometimes you have to replace both battery and alternator at the same time or else your alternator keep's going out because of a weak battery.

Check the voltage across the battery when you turn the key to crank the car with some help. If the voltage is going below 12 volts, chances are good your battery is shot. If the battery voltage is high when trying to crank the engine but it still won't crank, check the grounds at the frame and the engine to be sure they are clean and tight. If the engine is cranking ok but not firing up, check the fuel pressure. You can also check the fuel supply one other way. Take the intake off and using a squirt can, shoot a few ounces of fuel directly in the OPEN throttle body. If it fires up and shuts right back off, you have a bad fuel pump.
