Problem with fuel pressure
Problem with fuel pressure
well ever since i bought my car it always had trouble starting the first try (unless i turn the key a couple of times to pump fuel in there) so i did a tune up and change plugs, wires, filter, coil and other stuff still my car has a problem starting. today i checked the fuel pressure and when it starts its at 41 for a couple a seconds then i drops back down to 0 in like a second. is it suppose to do that? i though it was suppose to stay at 41 and at idle its at 34, and i drove with it on its like at 38 with light throttle. but could it be my pump or my regulator causing it to drop pressure really quick
It can be either.
First of all disconnect the vacuum line going to the fpr and see if you can feel any gas there with the engine primed or on.
Also, disconnect your fuel rail with the injectors attached. Prime the pump and see if your injectors leak.
If both check out odds are higher that its your fuel pump, but it still doesn't exactly rule out the fpr. There are ways of checking the fpr by clamping the return line and seeing if you retain fuel pressure in the lines, but I don't feel comfortable clamping fuel lines for fear of them tearing.
From what I've seen though, it seems like a higher probability that the fuel pump would die over the fpr. Just a guess though.

This is really common, my TA does it also. It's a check ball in the fuel pump, only effects starting. Just prime the car twice or grab a new fuel pump. It won't hurt your car any driving around though, only effects starting.
