Angry Problem at 4000 rpm

Hi all,

I was hoping that somebody may have had this problem before. I have a 1996 Camaro Z28 Auto, and I just took it out of the garage from the winter. After doing some maintenance, oil and new breaks I drove it to break it in and it was running rough. I got on the high way and at 60 I punched it, it downshifted to second started taking off and stopped at arround 4000 rpms and was just sitting there at those rpms, I let off the gas and it shifted to 3 and started going again.

I tried similar a by using puting it into second or D same results. I am thinking since it is running rough that and does not have enough power that it may be wires and plugs.

Please help, also if u have suggestions and any instructions would be great!
Thank you!

Gogi

Re: Problem at 4000 rpm??? PLEASE HELP TTT

Can anybody give me any suggestions? I am hoping for wires and plugs but it seems like from all the differnet post I have read it may be the opti?

Also any suggestions on how to change plugs and wires the easiest way?

If I need a new opti where would I get a good one for a good price? what is the difference between vented and not?

THank you for helping me out

clogged cat maybe? drive it hard and see if your cat is glowing red. with bad plug wires it would run like crap at idle too.. from my opti experiences it will ping, backfire, miss and hesitate under load at all rpms if the opti is bad.

Re: Problem at 4000 rpm

It may be the fuel pump not being able to supply enough fuel when demand gets too high, like higer RPM's at WOT. Have you checked your fuel filter? I would change that and then attach a mechanical FP gauge to the schraeder valve and tape it to the windshield so you can see it when you drive. You could test the FP at idle, but it'll probably be fine until you stand on it.
