probably stupid questions
probably stupid questions
I'm sorry to ask rhetorical questions, but i would like to get some opinions on some things to do to my car. I drive a 1995 camaro Z28 and it completly bone stock for now.
: what type of park plugs and wires should I get.
- are bosch fine, if so plantnum 1 2 3 or 4
: I' m kind of broke so for now im just geting an air filter and holding off on the cold air intake, so any stand out air filters out there?
: another question, is a regular mass air flow sensor from auto zone good enough or should i get a better one
: i would also like to put headers on my car but i don't know if i'm up for the task. any comments or suggestions on that or what type i should get?
: if i get headers i want to go straight back with the loudmouth exhaust. any comments or suggestions on that?
: when i do get CAI is K&N the best to get?
If any body has any suggestions or comments on any of this I would rather you E-mail than reply because i don't check this to often. my email address is RDHOG79@aol.com also if thers is any body who gets this from central illinois and wants to help with the headers let me know
thanks jeff

Sorry dude...the reason you probably aint got no replies is because for 1, you don't sound like you have any money to do anything. 2.....the things you wanna do you don't sound too enthusiastic about.
To me the K&N CAI is the best. But if you can't afford that you really shouldn't be thinking about upgrading your car at all and just upkeep it.
JMHO.

GM wires are fine. If you get headers, then you'll need to reroute the wires and should probably look into aftermarket. I use NGK TR55s. They are cheap, and good. Bosch are fine. Just getting any kind of new plug would help. This is just regular maintainence stuff, not much performance gain.
: I' m kind of broke so for now im just geting an air filter and holding off on the cold air intake, so any stand out air filters out there?
Just save your money and get a used CAI for $150 or less. Until then, the stock filter is fine.

Your stock MAF is fine. Don't mess with it. Don't remove the screen. Unless you're making alot of horsepower, the stock MAF isn't a big restriction.

It's a tough job, but opens up the car alot. Sounds good, gives you 15-20rwhp or so. My MACs are OK, but I'd get Hooker longtubes if I did it over again. I got the MACs because of the plug access, they fit good, and I was worried about the longtubes being a PITA to install. Well, headers in general are a PITA, might as well get longtubes in there.
: if i get headers i want to go straight back with the loudmouth exhaust. any comments or suggestions on that?
Headers and Loudmouth will be pretty loud! I have the stock exhaust, no cat, and an electronic cutout. It's loud as hell.
: when i do get CAI is K&N the best to get?
Almost all the CAI kits are the same for performance. Get whatever is the cheapest, get a new or used Moroso, K&N, SLP, etc.

Taylor 8mm wires seem to be a popular choice.

Bosch platinum 4 will be fine, but for a stock application you can easily get away with a much cheaper variaty of plugs. Your call on that one.
: I' m kind of broke so for now im just geting an air filter and holding off on the cold air intake, so any stand out air filters out there?
K@N filters seem to be the most popular.
: another question, is a regular mass air flow sensor from auto zone good enough or should i get a better one.
Good enough for stock or near stock application. May as well save your $$ and stick with what you've got.
: i would also like to put headers on my car but i don't know if i'm up for the task. any comments or suggestions on that or what type i should get?
Look for coated headers. Best gains would be long tubes, but they're pricy. Also will have to get an aftermarket "Y" pipe with those, and by the time it's all said and done you're looking at about a grand in parts alone. A popular alternitive, esp if emmissions is a concern, is to go with a shorty header. Look for something coated, 1 and 3/4 primary. There are 1 and 5/8 available, but if you get into heavy modifications down the road you'll probably swich 'em out anyway, so it's best to do it right the first time. Have had good luck with SLP headers. Shorty coated 1 3/4 headers will show up for sale used in the FS section on this board from time to time when people are going to the long tubes, so to save some cash you might look there.
For a do it yourself header install on an LT1 F-body plan on it taking all weekend. Not an extremely difficult task, yet time consuming.

Straight back is possible, but costly and requires a bit of custom fabrication. It's been done though... do a search for more info. Loudmouth exhast is a popular choice.
:when i do get CAI is K&N the best to get?
It seems to be a very popular choice around here.

Stevil got it right. Stock air filter, wires and MAF are fine for a stock LT1.
Whatever headers you get, get them coated. Do plugs and wires at the same time as headers. My Accel 9000 wires have held up well with headers.
