Pro 5.0 install

Hey there,
I'm getting ready to install my Pro5.0 shifter. I will be using the install guide from project trans am. Are there any other sites that may have better info? I know this is a simple mod but I want to do it right and it's basically my first time modding my car. So far I have thread locker and GM RTV sealent(free, my brother's a GM mechanic!). Do I need anything else?
Thanks for helping this newbie!

Here are pics from my pro 5.0 install:

I would recommend that you use thread locker on the bolts that attach the stick to the shifter assembly (I had mine loosen a couple times already). And, it seems most people like the Pro 5.0 shifter best with about 1 inch or so cut off the stick. I took about an inch of mine and love it.

One other complaint people have is that they transfer more noise into the cabin especially with a poly trans. mount. I used a big thick square mouse pad trimed with a hole in the middle to slip over the shifter ounce it was all toether again and that took away a lot of the noise.

Re: Pro 5.0 install

Hey Tyler,

Sounds like you have everything you need. You might want to put that thread locker on the shift-stop bolts in addition to the shifter handle. One of those bolts backed down on me a while back and caused my shifter to jump out of first when I was starting out. Freaked me out!

Other than that, the install is pretty straight forward.

The Pro 5.0 was the second mod I did (the first was !CAGS ).

You are going to LOVE your new shifter!

Have fun!

same here.

I cut about 3/4" off the top with a dremel, and I LOVE it! I put the stock shifter back on just for fun, and it was a WORLD of difference. I just cannot stand driving a stock-shifter car anymore, the throws are just so long and loose..

Even with lock-tite I had trouble with the two small bolts that hold the shift handle to the base. I wrapped two hose clamps around them to help hold every everything together.

Sounds like you have everything under control. The hardest thing for me to do was figure out how to get the ebrake to com straight up. Other than that, you might want to get some really thin paper gasket material, and make a gasket just like the box the shifter connects to. I didn't do that the first time, but I went back and did it and it really helped with road noise. Only cost $3 from ACE hardware, so it was worth it.

Hey all,

Thread Locker (Lock-tite) is a red fluid that locks the bolt onto place and prevents it from comming loose (forever supposedly). This helps as the Pro5.0 bolts that hold the shifter shaft in place come loose due to tranny vibration comming up to the Shifter. Good luck
