I'm about to emabark on a drive from Georgia to Montana. Any suggestions on what to check, fill or replace before I go? Thanks for any suggestions.

Everything you can think of. Change your oil before you go. That's a long way there and back.

Thinking of going up that way myself.

Duct Tape and Wd-40.

Tape for patching hoses.

Wd to spray on front to keep the bugs from sticking.

And...a can of fix-a-flat, 2 gallons of water and a C-Phone.

Please give opinions as I may do this in august

I found a car I want to buy in OR but would have to drive back 2,084 miles or so. it's a 33 hour drive.
Am I insane to even attempt this?
The car seems to be in reasonably good shape.
I would never hesitate to take my old 98 LSI on any drive that far. The opti and waterpump have been replaced and the car has 85k miles. Do you think I could make it home w/out incident?????
thanks

Awww common ArcticY, you're making it sound like he's getting ready to drive a 1972 Gremlin with 275xxx miles accross country, these cars aren't that unreliable.

I would do all the basic's though, oil change, check all fluids, air pressure in tires (including the spare) etc..........and definitely bring a cell phone along

Good luck, sounds like fun!

i'm planning to drive all the way to houston from Los Angeles. with my friend's 95 Z with 130K miles on it. check tire pressure, change oil, check coolant level, and all fluids in this matter. get a AAA a cell phone, and dont drink and drive . you should be fine.

Cool

Where in Montana are you going? I spent a summer at geology field camp in MT and loved it!! And we made the same drive. Lost the water pump at Lewis and Clark caverns, but we were caravaning and one group tore down the broke while the other drove to town to get new pump, and the rest went swiming.

I was on the tear down team on my back in the gravel.

I just did the drive and my opti crapped out about 3/4 of the way through- just bring a cell phone, that's all you can do! Other than that, the car ran like a champ- I have put plenty of 20+ hour trips on it before, so although this was the longest straight run I think it was just a fluke.

I always carry a heavy duty truck tire pump with some rubber plugs to fix flats--it works great, never have to take the tire off to repair the hole. I still would carry the spare just in case the tire gets shreded or something. Also check the condition of the belt, and hoses, if they look worn, replace them. I would also clean and spray battery terminal protectant on the cables, I personally clean the positive and negative block right behind the battery, where the bundle of wires connect, I know mine were pretty bad. I am going from Michigan to California here in a few weeks, so I am hoping nothing goes bad, last trip in a 90 volkwagon the starter went out, I was moving across country from washington state, I just drove straight through without stopping, and just left the car running for the entire trip. It broke down in the middle of no-where (Montana) so I was a little pissed off. Good luck and have fun
