Preload on GMPP Lifters

Well, I had the comp R lifters for a year or 2, and then they started losing clips. I was used to doing 1/8-1/4 turn when adjusting RR's, and lately they have been coming loose when I go to the track. I thought 1/4 turn would be enough with these lifters, but now I am reading 1/2-3/4 (from one source) turn past zero lash? Is this true? If so how much power is honestly to be gained from doing 1/2 turn instead of around 1/4 turn?

thanks

On any hydraulic roller that I have had, whether it was using OEM lifters, Comp R's, or Morels, I only go 1/4 turn past 0. What type of locking nut are you using? I have had one or 2 back off in the past, but I would just set it to 1/4 turn preload, and then make sure the lock nut was tight. All would be good afterwards.

As you are doing and Nick suggested, 1/4 turn is plenty.

ok cool, I have only had 2 back off since I built new motor, I am using poly locks with my 1.6 pro mags. My poly locks are a few years old, but they still seem to be able to tighten pretty good.

Thanks

locking the nut seems like it must be where I am making an error and why they are backing out. When I do the lock, I get the preload set (minus like 5 degrees) and then lock the nut, and then tighten the nut as hard as I can with the lock tightened... is this the right way?

thanks

I always tighten the nut to were I want my preload and hold it steady with a wrench and then crank on the lock pretty hard. I've had good luck with that.

That is the exact same method I use. And, to date I haven't had one get loose (knock on wood). However, I'm usind Crane 1.6 RRs with their poly-locks.

That's the way I've always done it too, except that somewhere I read that the locks should be torqued to 20 ft. lbs., so I use my in. lb. torque wrench (it's smaller and easier to get in at the back ones) set to 240 in. lbs. Never had a problem yet.]

Yep, I've got Comp Pro Mags and I'm using the hardware that came with them, I'm pleased.
